Lebanon's Rape Law: #522
Parliament has closed the way to escape rape criminals by marrying the victim.

The Parliament of Lebanon has given up a law under which if a rapist gets married to a victim , he can be freed from the punishment.
The struggling activists for women's rights have demanded from long time that Article 522 of the Penal Code be repealed.
His campaign was supported by Women Affairs Minister Jean Ogassiann, who said that this law was like "Stone Age".
Similar laws have recently been abolished in Tunisia and Jordan already.
The same law was used by many Syrian refugees to live in Lebanon. They used to get themselves trapped in the crime of rape and then got married to a related victim and had the ability to live in Lebanon.
Members of the Lebanese parliamentary committee for administration and justice had gathered in December last year to present the proposal to cancel Article 522.

Article 522 allowed the prosecution to stop or suspend the punishment of the person who had kidnapped a victim, or had been raped, and had been married to the victim.
According to the social worker, this law will allow the victim to marry the criminal rapist So that the honor of the victim is preserved. In such a situation, even if she does not want to marry , she has to marry a criminal to save her respect.
The groups fighting for the rights of women had demanded to abrogate Article 522 for the purpose of protecting women's dignity and honour .
The whole country, thanked the MPs for strengthening the security of women with all kinds of violence.
